On The Sharp End Of The Stream
Those razor Sharp executives must have obviously
got themselves an advance copy of the Arbitron
report, as they have teamed up with ITVnet, Inc.
the "leading provider of self-service Webcasting
solutions," to offer a free webcasting service for
users of Sharp's new Internet ViewCam.
"We are very excited about the partnership
between ITVnet and Sharp," said Anthony Bay,
general manager, Streaming Media Division at
Microsoft. "The combination of digital video
cameras and innovative streaming media services
delivers powerful tools into the hands of millions of
consumers." Why was a Microsoft commenting on
this? Well, this little puppy will be using Microsoft's
Advanced Streaming Format (ASF) for playback on
Windows Media Player.
The partnership will "make it easy for Sharp Internet
ViewCam users to shoot, publish and share their
video on the Web. Businesses and individuals who
create digital videos using the Sharp Internet
ViewCam, can now post it on the ITVnet Web site
for immediate viewing by friends, family and
colleagues around the world." Fantastic, more home
videos to clog up the net ... but I suppose it was
inevitable.
Sharp's Internet ViewCam, we are told is "the
world's first digital camcorder to employ MPEG-4
data compression, which is designed specifically
for video delivery over the Internet. *And* the
new VN-EZ1 model, the smallest ViewCam *ever*,
weighing only 5.5 ounces. This little fun kit will
enables you to shoot up to 60 minutes of video
with sound, save it to a removable 32MB
SmartMedia(TM) [Sony's "Memory Sticks" sound
better though] storage card, and quickly and
easily transfer video files to their PCs and onto
the Internet. Better chuck out those DigiBeta's then.
If you fancy sharing all your home videos with
the rest of the world [I know I have some that
a few people would be interested seeing], then
you'll need to go ITVnet's "personal online
publishing service" and upload away. If I show
you mine, will you show me yours?
