Con-Fusion'99
Fusion'99 is "the first in a series of three collaborative
interactive telepresence events ..." They got us in the
first sentence. Telepresence.
Then it all went horribly wrong. "... which explore
the current break down of definitions, dualisms and
geographical boundaries on the Internet. The theme
focuses on the fusions occurring between the artificial,
the organic and the virtual through the collapses and
interactions of Cyberspace." An ISDN link-up then.
Yup, round-up, round-up, for a *live* video-conferencing
session between the College of Fine Arts in Sydney,
Australia and Bauhaus University in Weimar, Germany
on June 9 & 10. You'll see things of magic, be absorbed by
events that marvel, experience technology of tomorrow,
pay through the nose to get in.
Yes, you will have the privilege of seeing people using
the "latest real-time technologies and collaborative
techniques, the artists in Australia and those of Germany
pair up to test new levels of interactivity, conceptual
collaboration and virtual space. The work ranges from
live audio streaming and installation, to video manipulation,
to the use of various available net software's which have
yet to be utilised creativity such as Net Meeting or Hotline
Chats, WWW sites and VRML possibilities and finally to the
concepts of telepresence performance." There is three
paragraphs more of this stuff, but we are still recovering
from the "software's which have yet to be utilised
creativity ... " comments. If anyone is in Australia or
Germany, it might actually be worth going just to heckle the
organisers in person for us.
