In Dust We Trust

We were going to call this series of stories "Industry News", but thought [with the help of some dyslexic downtime] that "In Dust We Trust", sounded much better.

So lining up for the first story is news that Macromedia are going to give the new Director 7.02 release support features like: streaming MP3 and DirectSound support; QuickTime 4 video streaming; enhanced font embedding; and new support for Macromedia Flash 4.

The Director 7.02 update is now available as a free download for all registered users of Director 7 and the Director 7 Shockwave Internet Studio from Macromedia's Web site.

Cleaning the pipe for second round is news that AT&T, BMG, Matsushita and Universal Music have announced a joint agreement to develop and test technology for large- scale, secure music and media distribution.

Not to be out done by everyone else having a pop at their own standard, their Electronic Media Distribution (EMD), will I'm sure *really* help everything move forward in a clear, decisive way. But don't worry it is an "open technology [that] would provide consumers with an easy and convenient way to obtain and play music in new and compelling digital formats." Yeah, doesn't MP3 already do that?

Sonic Foundry slides in third with their news that they have updated Sound Forge 4.5 to incorporates RealNetworks' G2 file format support and MP3 support as a plug-in. Sound Forge 4.5, if those not in the know, is an audio media editing environment containing a wide range of processes, tools, and effects for manipulating audio including support for audio and video formats. Current owners of the program are eligible for a free update and demo versions are available.
